Star anise (scientific name: Illicium verum Hook. F.) is a plant of Illicium family and Illicium genus.Tree, crown tower shaped, elliptic or conical; bark dark gray; branches dense. The leaves are irregularly alternated, obovate elliptic, oblanceolate or elliptic; the fruit of normal scab blooms from March to may, ripens from September to October, blooms from August to October, ripens from March to April next year; the pollen is red to dark red, single leaf axillary or near terminal; the peduncle is 20-56 mm long, the aggregate fruit is full and straight, and the follicles are mostly 8, octagonal.Star anise is a famous flavoring, also used for medicine.
